Ipsen NTUA Team: Strong Presence at the ESCAPE 34 Conference in Florence

We had the honor of participating in the prestigious European Symposium on Computer-Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE 34), held from June 2 to 6, 2024, organized by AIDIC, the Italian Association of Chemical Engineering. This significant event attracted over 1,000 participants and brought together esteemed members of the scientific community, including researchers, PhD students, and professors, to discuss and present innovative processes across various sectors.

The symposium combined the 34th European Symposium on Computer-Aided Process Engineering with the 15th International Symposium on Process Systems Engineering (PSE).

Professor Antonis Kokossis delivered an insightful presentation titled “Assessment of Low-Carbon Alternative Fuels in Maritime Integrated with CCS On Board.” Our research, titled “A Systems Approach to Model Non-Conventional Streams Applied to Biocrude Production from Hydrothermal Liquefaction,” was also presented, showcasing our project “MARINES” (Military Waste Recycled Into Fuels), implemented within the framework of the National Recovery & Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” and has been financed by the European Union (NextGeneration EU).

Additionally, our PhD student Konstantinos Mexis presented his work, “Extracting and Ranking Metabolic Pathways from Large Metabolic Networks using Graph Theory and Metabolic Flux Analysis.” PhD student Stefanos Xenios also presented his poster, “Strategies for Renewable Muconic Acid Production from Lignin-based Aromatics through Rational Metabolic Engineering of Pseudomonas Putida KT2440.” These presentations highlighted our project DEBONAIR (A Model-Theoretical Framework to Support Decisions and Accelerate the Design-Build-Test-Learn Cycle in Industrial Biotechnology Applications), funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) under the 2nd Call for H.F.R.I. Research Projects (Project Number: 3817).

Professor Antonis Kokossis further contributed to the conference by chairing the session on sustainable energy applications.

We are proud of our team’s achievements and look forward to continuing our work in innovative research and development.
