Prof. Antonis Kokossis and Prof. , co-chairs of the Sustainability Section of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE), are proud to announce the successful hosting of a special session focused on advancing sustainability efforts at the 6th Gas Treatment Conference, held at Qatar University. This session, which was dedicated to promoting the EFCE Sustainability Section’s activities, served as a key platform for engaging with experts from both academia and industry.
The session addressed crucial sustainability challenges, including the pressing issues surrounding the food-water-energy-waste nexus, and emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration. Attendees shared insights and discussed innovative strategies to enhance sustainability practices within the chemical engineering sector, with a focus on fostering industrial partnerships and strengthening connections interest groups like SusChem.
A key highlight of the event was the opportunity to visit Prof. Nimir Elbashir’s pioneering laboratories at Texas A&M University at Qatar. Prof. Elbashir and his team are making significant strides in decarbonizing the aviation industry through the design and blending of sustainable jet fuels, a critical step toward reducing emissions in global transportation.
