National Technical University of Athens Hosts FLEXIZYME Consortium Milestone Meeting in Athens
Athens, Greece — June 24-25, 2025
The IPSEN team of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) was proud to host the FLEXIZYME consortium’s first in-person meeting since the project’s Kick-off, held on June 24–25 at the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens. This two-day gathering marked a significant milestone, celebrating one year of progress in the EU-funded FLEXIZYME project.
The meeting brought together project partners from across Europe to review advances across all work packages and to align on the next steps of this ambitious initiative, which is funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) under Grant Agreement No 101157528.
Key highlights of the meeting included:
-
Updates on enzyme characterisation and engineering activities;
-
Feedstock analysis involving palm oil distillate, coconut oil, and off-spec lentils;
-
Presentation of preliminary Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) results, supporting FLEXIZYME’s sustainability goals;
-
Introduction of the project’s Ethical Strategy, developed by ENCO Engineering and Consulting srl.
The sessions were marked by open dialogue, productive planning, and a collaborative spirit—leading to a unanimous decision to meet again in person soon. The first day concluded with a networking dinner overlooking the Acropolis, further strengthening partnerships over traditional Greek cuisine.
NTUA extends its sincere thanks to all participants for their valuable contributions and engagement. We are especially proud to have supported this vibrant exchange of ideas and interdisciplinary progress in the heart of Athens.
