Abstract The application of life cycle engineering (LCE) in the oil and gas industries, with reference to hydrosulphurization of gas oil was studied. LCE takes into consideration the technical, environmental and economic aspects of the life cycle of products and processes with the use of life cycle analysis (LCA) and life cycle cost (LCC) tools. Environmental impacts were then calculated for two acid gas emissions to assess the environmental impact of products. It was concluded that the use of environmental assessment tools such as life cycle assessment is useful only in the analysis of environmental aspects of processes and products in the supply chain.
